Yes, the Senator was a Google-Jockey Republican that helped MAGA go mainstream - no question. But equally set in stone is that the man's political skill was awesome.
One of my biggest regret of the 90's was the Lewinsky thing. Yeah yeah it was perjury but me, and my side went looney tunes nuts over it, and we dogged this man for something many have done and frankly, is private. It was a totally unjustified investigation where Starr only accidentally stumbled into it from the WhiteWater investigation----the very "gubmint overreach" that my side claims to be against. Reasons I regret it:
*It was just plain wrong. Again - private is private and as I said -major overreach.
*It HELPED Bill Clinton. We crucified him and his Wife, she got sympathy bumps and he - wisely went about being President and in the end, he left with high approval ratings and Newt left because his own caucus ate him and not in the pleasurable way. Furthermore, it actually distracted from the REAL scandal: China political donations, and transfers of military secrets to China, along with favorable trade statuses.
BUT---there were rumblings of Clinton and Newt making a Social Security deal a la Reagan and Tip. And to me - Clinton and Newt at the time were the best policy minds we had, Left and Right. Would've been a remarkable deal. BUT Newt went 24/7 Monica, and we lost a chance.
President Biden and Speaker McConnell are friends. They are from the Senate when America used to be a 1st world nation-state. Before tribalism and caste systems started to get structural and visible. Collegial. Working together. Minus hatred.
As a legacy item - both men would've jumped at it and hammered out a deal. Then Corporate America would've fixed a few Senators and a Speaker to go along with it too (corporations won't allow that much income to be taken out of the system because despite 8 years Obama and 4 years Biden - you are still consumer economy. People buying shit they dont need with money they dont have for people they dont like - is your economy)
No way in hell it happens now and your next President - is a LAME DUCK starting today, you people don't realize that because you are tribals and media owned for the news cycle du jour.
Question is - do the grown ups take control anytime soon? And if so is that in 2028, 2032, or later.

I'd be looking to names I'm not 100% pure with BUT see competence and ability to govern in: Governor Beashear of Kentucky (D). I hate to say it but Mitt Romney could play an amazing role as he's shown competence in fixing big things. You'd have to tell the Boeberts, MTGs, AOCs, etc.....to stay away. The Big Money interests would have to go to them and tell them that if they even whisper a peep during the deal, we'll primary the shit out of them like never before. The idiots need to be kept out.
If this doesn't get fixed I'm worried that the violence and mayhem that I openly laugh about at you people - ---would be a bit unavoidable for me and we can't have that.
And besides, it would be good for a generation of Americans and as President Biden says - America is the best country. Superior to Europe, to Asians, to all on Earth. I dig that. I guess the coffee and donut this morning made me soft.
