AFAIK there is no shortage of salmon...
As usual, you don't know. But feel free to do your quick-draw, shoot-from-the-hip trick and blast your own metaphorical fact balls.
I suppose 'shortage' depends on how you look at it. We have farmed salmon now, but vastly less wild salmon. And salmon farms pose problems in terms of environmental damage and health.
Wild salmon populations in the western US.
Pre-European settlement:
Columbia River Basin: conservative estimate: 10 to 16 million
Oregon: 2 to 3 million
California: 5.5 million
Current populations:
Washington including Columbia River Basin: 450,000 (and that is a 60% reduction since 1984)
Oregon: Less than 3,000
California: 500,000
