well, the GOP set what i see as a new benchmark; being (in this moment) simultaneously the greatest security and economic threat to the nation.
on security, i refer to zeihan and the gumming up of military morale and recruitment, by tuberville :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQWdCbNIO7o(in fairness, this has been cracked by a few promotions at the very highest level, but biggest impacts progress down the chain to the common enlisted officer. even russia and china has not invoked this kind of damage through all their post 2020 efforts.)
on economics, well the budget woes needs no reference.
yes, it has happened dozens of times before and been resolved, but seldom has normalization of incompetence been at the level now set by the GOP.

probably the most worrying is that none of the above are 'banner' topics for trump. he barely remembers tuberville, and would probably not chime in on the budget were it not a current media driver. probably most importantly, none of these seems to appear as fund-raising winners.
this of course does not detract from trump being the greatest 2024 to the nation. despite a THEORETICAL spiral of failure
(
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/27/tr...), the vast majority of MAGA see him is still one of the most successful businessmen of all time, just what a president needs to be.
with the seeming sustainability of trumpism, i no longer believe that the cult is non-transferable. what if there was a smarter (and more dangerous) business person who could easily be seen as even more successful, with a private media platform and a starter cult?
that would be elon musk, and i think all it would take is bit more attacks on whatever topics polls best for MAGA.
