Ron Vara. A renowned economist? Nope.

It's none other than Peter Navarro.

Peter Navarro, a trade adviser to President Trump, invented an expert named Ron Vara to justify his tariff policy. Navarro used the fictional expert in his books and cited him in interviews to support his views.

In TrumpWorld it is all just a web of endless lies.

The episode is not likely to cause Navarro any grief with his boss, however. Donald Trump famously invented his own fictional spokesman, John Barron, in the 1980s. Internet wags have joked that perhaps Barron could offer some PR advice to the newly unmasked Vara.

Now that he's caught Navarro says it was all just a little 'inside joke'. Sure.
