I'm not a terribly strong mathematician, but I can get roughly the answers i'm looking for.
Working with Gemini, we calculated my average compounded results for the 173 months i've held MKL is 10.37%/yr. Vast majority of shares were purchased in the beginning, rarely adding much after.
Never a divvy and a fair bit of inflation these last years, but that's where the chips fell. Haven't ever sold a share.
It is what it is. MKL has always been an oversized position (12%) in my concentrated collection, but that's a choice i made.
I grumble at MKL from time to time(undeservedly, i now think), but when i step back and take a breath...i can live with it.
Math says the boss and I need inflation + 6%/yr over the long stretch to keep our balance where it sits and sleep well as we practice community strolling. Looks like MKL has delivered roughly that so far.
Nothing fancy, just a steadily growing (yet lumpy)share price driven by a boring & conservative insurance company.
I'll conclude by giving Mr. Gayner and crew a tip of my hat. Thx.
