Joking aside, I agree with you. It is tough to keep a board going with strictly on-topic and on-theme posts. No one can come up with something new to say about Berkshire or value investing on a daily basis. If you implement on-topic too rigidly, you will dampen activity and risk putting the board into a recession!

I think in general off-topic discussions are fine. They help to keep the board active, attract new participants, encourage participation, and we all can benefit from the obvious above-average intelligence of board participants. The only consistent exception should be political threads. They almost always seem to devolve into a state where, on balance, they end up detracting rather than adding value to the board.
