The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Again, they threated to shut off the flow of oil to the United States, not oil that goes in a pipeline that passes through U.S. territory to Canada.

LOL. And what's the return strike if they did? Is Canada full of oil refineries? Where's their diesel fuel come from? How about Jet A for Toronto or Montreal's airports? It was always a lame bluff that was going to cost them a helluva lot more than us.

It's the one consistent with the facts. Trump has imposed or threatened massive tariffs against Canada over and over again, with as many different reasons. Wildfire

You're attempting to read Trump's mind. That's fine. There are other facts also - such as how Canada has outright banned US alcohol, routinely bundles Chinese and others' steel and aluminum and dumps it into the US market, refuses to do anything to defend their Arctic Coastline, screws over our dairy farmers, plus other things. Canada isn't the lily-white fainting flower that Canadians, their fans and the US media would have everyone believe. Google Canada's "dairy mafia" sometime to understand how they do bidness.

If Carney wants to piledrive his economy - which is already the worst among most major nations - who am I to tell him no? That means the US Citizen Discount just gets better for when I visit Vancouver and Whistler (3 and 5 hour drives, respectively). But we should not allow him to secure his trade deal with China and allow a flood of BYD cars, Chinese tech and vastly more Chinese influence into critical supply chains. Red line, that is.

I don't know if Carney is just another WEF Bond villain wannabe who wants to outsource what's left of Canadian manufacturing overseas or is naive enough such that he doesn't understand how the CCP does business. Either way I don't much care, and Canada can pick: they can be our best friends and trading partners and take place in locking down the hemisphere or they can be China's besties. They don't get to have their cake and eat it, too.
