The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

I started listening, then skipped it.. This is posted underneath.

The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2
Nature: Articles S4159...

Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus.

Although the evidence shows that SARS-CoV-2 is not a purposefully manipulated virus,

we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.

More scientific data could swing the balance of evidence to favor one hypothesis over another.

Obtaining related viral sequences from animal sources would be the most definitive way of revealing viral origins.

Statement in support of the scientists, public health professionals, and medical professionals of China combatting COVID-19

We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin.

We support the call from the Director-General of WHO to promote scientific evidence and unity over misinformation and conjecture

Now I'll say this, early on the I listened to the German fellow who developed the first SARS PCR test on this. He said if you are doing gain of function it's a natural to do site X first. Then take the virus with manipulated site X and modify it. NO evidence pulled from nature that this was done. In fact the first infectious strains looked like just completely random changes, like mother nature would do. Site X is still there and he counts that as heavy evidence that it likely didn't come from a lab.

That coupled with the fact the Chinese went and killed off all the animal farms in the area, and the evidence for the market is a strong indicator for natural origins. I watched John Campbell in the beginning, but soon he veered off, and I stopped watching. You should post this on the pandemic board, where we could chat if you want to. The problem we have is the Chinese are an authoritarian bunch, so that's their reaction - authoritarian, and we wonder why you would want more of that here in the USA.
