not the point. The post "fall of the iron curtain " and democratic movements in former eastern boc, de facto established (with western help) a buffer zone between russia and europe/NATO.. similar to creation of belgium in 1832 (see how that worked out) by UK and France... take US out of equationm, russia moves on , take your pick, Finland, Latvia, estonia,poland,. and NATO article 6 is invoked. US refuses, and voila, pan european war. china will sit it ut and deal with whoever wins.
