Then suddenly a 15,000 human missile is launched right at the city. Now schools are overwhelmed, food pantries are bare, massive increase in traffic accidents, trash everywhere.>>


As it happens, I have a good friend in Springfield, a retired Baptist pastor who formerly led a prominent church in a Detroit suburb. He tells me that he and most longtime Springfield residents are heartsick over the grossly distorted portrait of their city that is being conveyed by Vance, Trump, Fox News, etc.

Yes, Springfield is grappling with the rapid population growth, primarily because the GOP-led state government in Ohio has not offered much in the way of resources to handle that growth. Their Senator, JD Vance, has done nothing constructive either.

Here's what happened. A smallish group of Haitians, virtually all of whom are in the U.S. under legal status as refugees from the violence and devastation in their home country, came to Springfield because the churches and other institutions there welcomed them and because there were low-wage jobs available to them that went unfilled. Then, as typically happens with immigrant communities, the first group tells their friends and relatives about the opportunities and about the generally welcoming community, and so more come. They are overwhelmingly law-abiding, grateful people.

The nighmarish scenarios depicted by Vance, who should know better, and the rest of the MAGAs are, like most big lies, grounded in a few facts that are then blown entirely out of proportion.

The MAGA politicos and their fellow traveler media outlets are lying to you, because it is in their interest to spread those lies. End of story.
