Isn't that pretty much how all wars are won and lost?

To win a war, you must have more men or more resources. Preferably both.


Strategy too. The Lost Cause minimizes any military accomplishments by the North. The southern Generals were brilliant and saintly while the Northern Generals were butchers.

At Gettysburg Lee right sized his supply wagon trains from 35 down to 27 because of the long distance. This meant less artillery ammunition. He also didn't use spotters for his artillery. So the artillery fire before Picket's charge was too few and the wrong type of shells, and they overshot the Union lines.

The South was fielding large armies. The problems they had with food were because military supplies were not given priority on trains, etc.
