The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

The debate will of course focus on what Monsters All The Republicans Are (what else is new) instead of answering the pertinent question: How can we have a robust enough guest worker program such that we don't have anybody living in the shadows anymore?

An odd thing to say in this thread, since it's a thread that you started and which you chose to focus on insinuating what Monsters All The Democrats Are (for allegedly lying about illegal migrants being on Medicaid), rather than starting a thread on how we can have a more robust guest worker program. Only after the error in that claim is pointed out to you do you switch to lamenting that people are talking about the wrong thing.

However, to address your point, the reason we don't talk about having a more robust guest worker program is that such a program would run very much counter to the positions of MAGA (or at least the majority position), and certain against the policy ideas of Stephen Miller. So any such discussion is pretty much DOA for the next 3.5 years. Guest worker programs had largely found an ideological home among the business/Establishment wing of the GOP as a possible solution to getting illegal migrants out of the labor force without causing significant disruption in the industries that rely on foreign workers. That faction is now almost utterly out of power within the GOP. So you're not going to see "guest worker program" on the agenda for quite a while now.
