I haven't seen any support for the assumption there was any guarantee of Ukraine's security. Did I miss something?
There was a very long thread (with little agreement) about how much of a security guarantee the raw materials (rare earths) deal was. It appears the US assumed it was significant while Ukraine discounted it.

Trump has forced an administration with all "like minded" people. This will likely result in them continuing to make miscalculations like this where they make really bad assumptions about what others would think or do.
