Trump is a fake-fuck. But he wisely, smartly catered to these people. He "gave them good .....ear" when NOBODY ELSE did. He is to a segment of America, what Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are to a certain other segment of America.
Look at this:

Me: Atwater hedges his bet on that explanation, but sticks to it. Take it as a given that if it hurts blacks more than whites, then poor whites will vote for it. And I don't just mean back then - I mean today, now.
And once you see it and acknowledge it, you realize that they did it to themselves, they allowed themselves to be led around by the nose because they thought the black man would be hurt worse.
And don't forget LBJ:

So the poor white uneducated man can be easily led and fleeced by someone telling him he's better than the best colored man. And that's what the Republicans and Trump have excelled at.
