The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

CBS has free speech, except it was forced to cancel Colbert and accept a minder for CBS News.

Now, ABC has caved. ABC has free speech, except they were forced to suspend Kimmel indefinitely.

ABC Suspends ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ “Indefinitely” Over Charlie Kirk Comments

The network’s action came just after Nexstar, one of the biggest owners of local TV stations in the country — including 28 ABC affiliates — said it will pre-empt the series for the immediate future. A source said that ABC had also heard from at least one other station group about the show, suggesting that an affiliate revolt may have played a role in the decision.

The dramatic move follows Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr threatening to take action against ABC affiliates in the wake of Kimmel suggesting Kirk shooting suspect was a MAGA Republican during his Tuesday monologue.

Two, maybe three years ago, I started a thread on the Fool METaR board "DEI risk to corporations". At that time, it was state governments, like Florida and West Virginia, that were boycotting companies they deemed to have "DEI" policies. Now, the speech suppression is coming from the Federal level.
