But we did have exactly that in the U.N. partition plan for Palestine on Nov. 29, 1947, to be implemented at the end of the British mandate in Palestine on May 15, 1948. The Jewish side accepted the plan. The Palestinians and all neighboring Arab countries rejected it and embarked on an invasion to destroy the new Jewish state, which they lost.
