You're moving the goalposts. It's a matter of debate what *mechanism* is chosen to implement the tariffs. What's not a matter up for debate is that the democrats are just fine with implementing them in the first place. If they didn't want them Biden would have rescinded them immediately.

Tariffs have been used sporadically for decades. Maybe centuries. The fact that no ALL tariffs are rescinded under a given administration doesn't mean, or even imply, that the administration doesn't care about affordability. The tariffs of the past were to address unfair trade practices and as punitive measures as part of sanctions, on a very limited basis. In the case you cite, China.

You can mark this conversation if you like. If a Dem wins in 2028, almost all tariffs will disappear, except for very special cases like China (section 301) or those mandated by Congress. If I'm wrong, pull this up and gloat away.

Because WE were being idiots. Demands that were non-starters right out of the gate. Restricting Canada's right to negotiate trade deals as a sovereign nation? Really? Plus pushing on domestic policies that were none of our business? Yeah, I would have walked away from the table, too.

They, as I pointed out in another thread, don't have the slightest idea how their own economy works.

I'm pretty sure they do. They actually have competent leaders who listen to experts (like economists). You may think their policies are stupid, and that's your right. But their economy is humming right along.

As an aside, the Felon is a boon for northeastern Canada. We were just there very recently, and the locals said that tourism is up more than 30% because people are avoiding the US for tourism. They're pretty happy about it.
