I think the tendency of progressives to portray this as a trivially simple exercise whose solution is blocked by nothing more than evil insurance companies (and sometimes drug companies, rather than an enormously complicated problem of path dependence with significant consequences to a very large number of people, makes finding a solution more difficult. I understand the politics behind it, but I think it's damaging to the cause in the long run.
That's a straw man argument. Nobody says it's trivially simple. Everyone acknowledges that it's difficult and complicated. That's why it takes conviction and courage to solve it.
