It's possible a ketogenic diet could help reduce his symptoms (it reduces inflammation) if it's either of these, hopefully someone has suggested this to him. Maybe it wouldn't help, but a diet change seems easy enough to try for a few weeks. Minimal downside and the upside could be a useful improvement.
