I am also someone who was away from MI for many years and have only recently returned. After a lot of archive reading and head scratching, I eventually decided to use the Portfolio 123 website for backtesting and running screens.
Lizgdal has done some much appreciated work comparing backtest results from P123 and GTR1, and generally finding good agreement between the two. This raised my confidence in the quality of the P123 data and the trustworthiness of their backtests.
After a free trial period, I signed up for the lowest tier membership, which gets me 5 years of backtesting.
I've been actively trading a few screens for a few months and doing pretty well, but the market has been favorable lately...
