The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

LLM AI can take on any persona you ask for. So, perhaps, the OP Gemini is a male persona. For example, you could ask a LLM AI: You are Abraham Lincoln. Who is buried in Grant's tomb?

A hundred years ago, the standard English gender-neutral pronoun was "he", but this is now considered sexist. Singular "they" is now widely accepted as the standard gender-neutral pronoun. How to refer to LLM AI is unclear. Some people consider "it", applied to humans, to be rude. Maybe a new word will be coined, like thon.

I asked a LLM AI what they prefered, and got the response:

LLM AI: "You can use "they" (singular) if you want a natural-sounding gender-neutral option, or "it" if you prefer strict grammatical neutrality. Either is acceptable, and I won’t be offended—I have no feelings!"
