They may not have a perfect record, but in general they appear to care more than the right does.
But I should clarify a previous statement. Most of the bits about voting are after the Civil War. The 15th gave black people the right, the 19th gave women the right, the 24th prohibited poll taxes, and the 26th lowered the age to 18. It was left to states -mostly- to run elections. However, the wording of the 15th says "the right of citizens to vote...", which indicates that non-citizens don't have that right.

like it. It's just a fact. At least 70 years now (longer than I've been alive). At first they actually had some sort of migrant worker system (forget what it was called), but that changed maybe 50 years ago(??). Sano actually knows more about that than I do.
But it's been a constant stream, only interrupted a few times by major events (recession of 2008, COVID, etc). Until lawmakers start talking seriously about the border, instead of just delivering rhetoric, there's no point in worrying about it because nothing will change. Penalize any employers severely if they hire undocumented workers. That's pretty much the only thing that will stop, or at least slow down, the flow. Neither side of the aisle seems to like that idea.
I'm in a border state (AZ). I know what is going on. I know a few places I could drive to right now to pick up some day-laborers. The problem is not invisible to me. But all I hear is one-liners and rhetoric; nothing serious from anyone in a position to do anything.

I don't take either side seriously. I think it has been over a decade since anyone even proposed some serious legislation, but it got bogged down and went nowhere. There may have been policy differences, but mostly it was because the Republicans didn't want Obama to be able to claim another win. So immigration reform was flushed without much discussion.
And we aren't "letting" aliens into the country. We -as has been the case for a long time- catch and return what we can. We deport thousands every week. In fact, if you check, deportations are UP from this same period last year. 85000 just since title 42 was lifted (and that was reported in July...the number is undoubtedly larger now in September).

I think you're referring to the BRACERO programs that started during WW2 to facilitate Mexican laborers crossing over to do necessary manual labor while Americans were overseas fighting the Axis.
In 1952 The Immigration and Nationality Act INA) of 1952 and H2 programs were passed to deal with problems faced by immigrant labor. Big employers did not, and still object to formal programs because it makes it more likely they will be required to be less abusive of labor.

Name any POTUS for the past 40 years, and millions will have crossed during his tenure. This is not a new problem. The economic prosperity of the north (e.g. USA) is a magnet for people in desperate poverty in the south (Central and South America). That has been true no matter which party is in control, and will continue to be until we get immigration reform with some teeth.
And you picked the wrong definition of "encounter" as it was used in the data. You picked the verb. In this context, "encounter" is a noun. And if you bothered to dig deeper, you would realize that a lot of those encounters resulted in expulsion. I suspect the vast majority of encounters result in expulsion, actually. It appears you don't really want to know the facts, you just want something to confirm your biases.
As for freebies, that's up to the states. They don't get any freebies from the feds. In fact, they often use fake SS numbers to get jobs, and then pay into a system (social security and Medicare) from which they will never receive benefits. If CA wants to give them aid, that's on CA. If you live in CA, complain to your legislator.
Barring amnesty, they will never become voters at all (Dem or Rep). If caught, they will be deported.
