You'd also have to ask yourself why an amnesty program is never mentioned coming from these sanctuary outfits. Surely if The Community would benefit from their permanent presence, then surely some kind of legislative proposal could be made to amend the laws and make them full participants in society, right?

What are you talking about? The Democrats spent most of the early 2000's trying to get a "path to citizenship" for aliens who were otherwise law-abiding. Don't you remember all the proposals that were brought forward with various Gangs of Eight or Six or whomever in the Senate? Obama's constant efforts to use Executive Orders like DACA and DAPA to achieve that?

It doesn't get brought up any more, because immigrant advocates know the don't have the votes. It's the same reason abortion opponents aren't trying to bring a national ban on abortion through Congress, instead being forced to concentrate on state-by-state efforts. It's not because they don't want the broader policy, and it doesn't mean their positions are fake. It just means they know they can't get a national abortion ban/path to citizenship through the Congress, so they do what they can instead of tilting at windmills.
