If the US "vaporized" the value of US Treasuries, no-one would buy any, just like other bottom of the barrel banana republics.
LOL. People will buy US Treasuries for one reason: transparency. In government and in finance.
And that's the same reason the BRICS countries can set up all the "reserve" currencies they want. There is *zero* accountability, transparency or anything like it in any of those countries.
Here, people swear at FASB and boards like it but they're part of the reason the United States is the United States.
