Not new at all. That has been the party mantra for some years. I remember when former Detroit PD Chief Craig announced his run for Gov of Michigan, in late 21. He fell right in line with the GOP mantra, spouting "Communists! Socialists!". Just like the Repub I saw running for Michigan Gov in 18, spouting the standard GOP line "the US is a republic, not a democracy", as if a republican form of government, and democratic processes, were mutually exclusive.
How did Chief Craig's campaign for Gov turn out? The "JC" he hired to gather petition signatures to get on the ballot defrauded him, by forging vast numbers of signatures on the petitions. The state elections commission threw out the petitions, and there was no time to circulate new petitions and gather legitimate signatures.
