In the normal sequence of things, this usually happens. Old capital equipment gets used even after being fully depreciated. Sometimes for decades. However, there is an additional constraint here. That additional constraint is power. If you have 100MW for a data center, and you have a large building housing that data center, and you have cooling systems all across that data center, then when your 4-5-6 year old equipment is fully depreciated, you have to make a [tough] decision - do you keep the old equipment there running, or do you tear it out and use all that energy to power new, modern equipment that works 10X faster, and uses less energy? You DO NOT have the choice of simply finding another 100MW and another location because the capacity doesn't exist or may take another decade to come online.
