There is a difference between memory loss and dementia.

Memory loss is a natural occurrence with aging that varies greatly among individuals. You occasionally have difficulty finding words. You may be worried about it, but your family and friends are not.

Dementia is not a natural occurrence and, thankfully rare. You confuse relatives (like an ex-wife) with other people (like someone you raped). Your family and friends are worried about it, but you’re not.
