He does say crazy stuff, like "defund ICE". But Stevens says "Israel comes to me in my dreams".

The Wayne County results are surprising. As of right now, with 719 or 720 precincts reporting, Stevens is carrying the county, 51.29% to 45.44%. Statewide, El Sayed is leading by about 16,000. Wayne County is famous for it's large Muslim population, folks not likely to vote for an Israeli mouthpiece. Stevens was constantly running ads showing old pix of her with Obama, from years ago. There were claims she was trying to imply Obama endorsed her on this go around. In reality, he did not endorse anyone in the Senate race. Maybe it worked, she swung the African American vote in the county, with a lie? Stevens kept insisting that El-Sayd is "unelectable", but he did better outstate than she did. McMorrow, who is Stevens lite, withdrew from the race some weeks ago, but drew more votes than the margin between El-Sayed and Stevens.

Michigan voters threw a wrench in expectations that Dr. Abdul El-Sayed would easily coast to victory over Rep. Haley Stevens in the closely watched Democratic Senate primary Tuesday.

With an estimated 96% of votes counted as of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, El-Sayed led Stevens by fewer than 15,000 votes out of more than 1.5 million ballots cast, too narrow a margin for most outlets to project a winner.

State Sen. Mallory McMorrow, who dropped out of the race too late to be removed from the primary ballot, received more than 61,000 votes in a potential spoiler role.

In the mood for a conspiracy theory? Stevens was running ads saying GOP operatives were pushing El-Sayed, because they thought he would be easier to beat in November. In Michigan you do not declare a party affiliation in the primary. Dem and GOP candidates are all listed on the ballot. You can't mix it up, like vote for a GOP candidate for Gov, and a Dem for Senate, but it would be possible for a GOP loyalist to vote an all Dem slate, just to vote for El-Sayed. I have voted a GOP slate in the past, to vote for the least horrible GOP candidate for POTUS, because I was comfortable that my preferred Dem candidate would win without my vote.
