If what you're thinking is that there's a possible justification for discontinuing efforts to mitigate the pain that folks are suffering over there....no, there's not. We can't just walk away from the situation and let it deteriorate into even more chaos and expect that there will be any upside to that.
Yes, we can walk away from the situation. And we should. At this point it's nothing to do with us. We can't get either side to stand down. In fact, at this point, if we did get one side to stand down, the other would probably take advantage of it and attack the other.
We're spending lives and treasure over there with little to show for it, and no end-game in sight. One key mistake is going into a situation without an exit strategy/plan/criteria. We've done that a lot the past couple of decades. Never ends well.
At this point the situation can't really deteriorate any further. Just let it play out. That's really all we can do. Anyone trying to get in the middle of it is gonna get bit, just like getting between two dogs who are fighting.
