Yes, we can walk away from the situation.
I didn't say we couldn't walk away from the situation. I said we couldn't walk away from the situation and expect there to be any upside. We can't walk away from it and expect things to get better. I think the idea that if people just had more pain and suffering, it might create an opportunity for a resolution that wasn't there before, is just wrong.
People preferring the pain of change to the pain of the status quo is a necessary but not sufficient condition to change. And in this conflict, the other things that need to happen for change to occur aren't yet present.
