The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

How would that be any better than the current situation?

Because there wouldn’t be any nukes around to be used by someone like Netanyahu in the future, or available to fall into other hands and get used against Israel (or any other nation, for that matter).

It sounds like you are saying the Middle East is going to be a shit show for a while. I don’t disagree with that. If the UN takes Israel’s nukes away from them, at least it won’t become a nuclear shit show.

you're never going to get those minorities to change their position

As my new wife likes to remind me, change won’t happen until the pain of continuing to do the same thing becomes greater than the pain of change.

The pain of change is still bigger than the pain of the status quo. The status quo needs to get worse before change will happen in the mid east.

In the US vernacular of today, give them what they’re asking for, good and hard.

No one can force peace on the Middle East. The middle easterners have to choose peace for themselves. What outsiders CAN do is limit the assistance they provide. And take away anything that might make the fighting really bad on outsiders. Like nuclear weapons.
