If powerful means power, I don't think earthquakes are measured as power. If powerful means difference in energy release, then I think the energy is approximately 4,000,000 times greater for the 9.2 quake. Ratio of energy release = 31.6^(9.2-4.8) - Aussi

I'll take your word for it. That Omni earthquake calculator you linked and its associated description were way too deep for me to parse on a laid back Sat night in the barn.
I did think twice about using the word "power" because what I was doing was showing the correct ratio between two logarithmic values, and power seemed like good shorthand.
