The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

“When you think of it, we shouldn’t even have an election.”

Reportedly, White House talking heads are trying to walk that back today. Maybe because of the threat to declare "insurrection". That would work better: send in ICE to provoke the locals. Then use that unrest as an excuse to declare "insurrection". Then, next fall, cancel elections in the blue states, where, he claims, there is "insurrection", so those states are not represented in Congress. Imagine a Congress representing red states almost exclusively.

It worked during the Civil War

from the net sifter:

No, most southern states were not represented in the U.S. Congress during the Civil War because their delegates and senators withdrew or were expelled after secession, creating vacancies and leaving the remaining Congress (dominated by Republicans) to pass legislation without Southern input, though loyal border states like Kentucky and Missouri maintained representation. The seceded states formed their own Confederate Congress, while the U.S. Congress operated with significantly fewer members, often struggling to achieve a quorum for a time

It would work for God on Earth Trump the Perfect even better in 28

from the net sifter:

No, Southern voters in the seceded Confederate States did not participate in Union presidential elections (1860, 1864) because they formed their own government with its own president, Jefferson Davis, and viewed themselves as separate; however, voters in occupied Southern states like Louisiana and Tennessee cast ballots in 1864, and the 1860 election saw widespread Southern participation for candidates other than Lincoln before secession, notes
