If he does some sort of hard turn towards something crackdown/martial law-ish, my guess is it will be based on a ridiculous pretext about safety/violence, and I suspect will come with a mobilization of some sort. Guard and/or reserve, maybe active. He's hammered away at the safeguards - DoD IG (Robert Storch, who I worked with a few years ago and is a quality man), toady yes-man lawyers and general counsel, pushing the limits of RoE already, tossing the "woke" generals or the ones that didn't have their tongues up the regime's ass enough - and again I know some of the casualties of this.
