“You don’t have a lot of envy, you don’t have a lot of resentment, you don’t overspend your income, you stay cheerful in spite of your troubles, you deal with reliable people and you do what you’re supposed to do. All of these simple rules work so well to make your life better.”
Here is a reprint of a twenty-year-old vanity publication by Charlie Munger. This revised format was published this month in time for his hundredth birthday party on January 1. I thought I might get around to gifting it to you one of these days. It’s sold well in this country, but very well in China and India (see: Luke 4:24)
Unfortunately, Charlie died just after Thanksgiving. Quotes from him (and the book) have been floating around the internet, and brought it to mind.
While you certainly can start at page 1 and read it through, it’s just as adaptable to being opened at random. In fact, the center of the book is reprints of distinct lectures (commencement addresses and the like) he gave at various times over the years. Each is a fair-sized evening’s reading.
It’s also free online, with links and useful graphics. But sometimes a dead tree version is nice to have.
