https://www.science.org/content/blog-post/breaking... - this has been my go to site for drug development chemistry for a while and has a good discussion.

The fact that two dueling publications were pushed out in a rush to publish - https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.12037, https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.12008 - and the fabrication is so mundane and easily reproduced makes me think this could be legitimate. I'm stunned. I'll be interested in reproduction of the work - rumor is Argonne is working on it - but then will be curious the material properties of LK-99.
