A couple weeks ago, I was reading a book about historical people and places in New Hampshire. One chapter was about the series of ministers in Dover, with a side story about three women who were flogged across the state, for the crime of being Quakers. The founders knew what they were doing, when they mandated the government stay out of people's religious lives. The wisdom of that policy has been under attack since the 1950s.
