The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

"A Marin County woman who worked as a pharmacist rejected her employer’s mandate to be vaccinated against COVID-19 because, she said, her body was “a temple of the Holy Spirit” that must be kept free of harmful substances. A federal appeals court was not convinced.

Maria Ledezma had objected to vaccinations for many years, and her employer, Optum Health Services, was entitled to conclude that her objections were based on “personal health preferences and a self-directed judgment about what substances are harmful,” the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday in a 2-1 decision dismissing her suit against the company.

“Invoking a broad principle that sounds in religious terms — that her body is a temple — does not transform her personal health judgment into a religious mandate,” said Presiding Judge Mary Murguia and Judge John Owens in the majority opinion.

The MD who gave me very effective spinal steroid injections (after a truck broadsided me) ranted at me for wearing a mask in his office in 2021. He believed the vaccine/mask/distancing/closures public health thing was unnecessary, it's just a cold, etc. The whole 'don't tread on me' schtick.

He ended up on an ICU ventilator with pleurisy in both lungs. He survived, but I'll never go back to his office.
