The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

"The time for honouring yourself will soon be at an end. <slight head bow> Highness."

A while back, I read of a conversation about Trump, from decades ago. Two guys looking at Trump having three casinos in Atlantic City. One said words to the effect "this is nuts. his casinos will cannibalize each-other". The other guy said "he likes to see his name on buildings". Same today. Everything will become a monument to himself.

I am comforted by a quote from the movie Gladiator:

Gladiator was a remake of "Fall Of The Roman Empire". In the earlier film, the General, played by Stephen Boyd, knew that Marcus Aurelius wanted him to inherit the throne, but it had not been publicly announced. (same setup) When Marcus Aurelius died (poison), for the unity of the Empire, the General lead the cheer "Hail Commodus (Christoper Plummer), Hail undoubted Caesar". The General went on doing his General thing, until Commodus' mismanagement and brutality lead to the two fighting it out. The General survived the combat, and walked away in disgust, as various scumbags were offering progressively higher amounts for the General to name them Emperor. And now we have Trump the Magnificent, collecting bribes reaching 10 figures.

Steve...has both versions in personal DVD library
