The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

For what? He got a blanket pardon from Biden. He could have admitted that personally injected COVID-19 into hapless people being held in a Chinese labor camp and the feds couldn't charge him; he has immunity.

The blanket pardon is only for past acts.

His legal argument here is that Sen. Paul is only doing this in order to induce Fauci to make new public statements before Congress that will be prosecuted for political reasons, regardless of whether they are true or not. Therefore (goes the argument) Fauci can reasonably take the Fifth Amendment so that his statements won't be used against him in a future prosecution.

It's a novel argument, and I'm not sure it's correct. But it's why you and the other posters are talking past each other. The prior pardon isn't dispositive of the legal position Fauci and his counsel are taking today.
