It's kind of ironic that the sight of shooting the messenger is very much worse for the reputation and popularity of the US government/economy than the jobs number ever was. Your kid gets a bad score on his math test, so you get filmed burning down the teacher's house?
The deal with Mr Powell is even funnier, if you have a dark sense of humour. Messing with the fed is saying "we are no longer a responsibly run country". Fair enough. But if the fed DID drop rates to 1% as demanded, it would be a billboard saying the US economy is in dire trouble. Presumably the reverse of the intended effect.
