The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Are Republicans realizing they will need to fold?

albaby has recently posted that the CR has an expiration of 11/21 (IIRC). This puts the Republicans in a bit of a bind as it will force them to come up with a new CR, which will be exceedingly difficult. Thank you, MTG.

Now, albaby has logically exposed (no surprise) the ridiculous and fictional number of $1.5 trillion that marco100 is claiming that Democrats are demanding. Anyone reading the news (or the many posts on this board) over the last few weeks, knows that the Democrats ONLY condition to vote for the CR is extension of the ACA subsidies. Period. Full stop.

The Republican position has always been vote for the CR and we’ll negotiate later. Of course the Republicans used this same strategy in March 2025, which the Democrats fell for. The Republicans had no intention of negotiating and compromising, and they didn’t.

Tuesday’s results certainly didn’t strengthen the Republicans position. Voters overwhelmingly voted for Democrats.

I think the Republicans know they are in between a rock and a hard place.

Oh, and those damn Epstein files.

My best guess is the Republicans know they will need to (dirty word warning) compromise. And they will need to save face. So they’re coming up with a completely ridiculous number like $1.5 gigabazillion and their base will believe it. Silly, but they’re obviously desperate.

Got to hand it to the Republicans. They know their base.
