Her testimony of their sexual encounter is necessary because the defense made the issue relevant in opening statements by questioning whether the encounter happened at all. If they hadn't suggested she lied about it, the details would be much less relevant. Her testimony also illustrated the nature of the story and exactly why the campaign wanted to suppress the fact that candidate Trump, age 60, was raw-dogging a porn star, age 27, he said reminded him of his daughter, age 24, while his wife and newborn son were waiting for him at home.
