"Lack of pride in and knowledge of American history"

Nothing new under the sun department. I remember reading about a study done, where people were shown the beginning paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence. Not only did most people not recognize it, many offered that the author should be thrown in prison. That was about 50 years ago.
