The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

The QQQ index rules are changing next month. There are also some big IPOs planned this year (some big AI companies), and the new rules will make these AI IPOs quickly show up in QQQ. In some cases, the float will be extremely low (under 20%). The FT Alphaville article summarized the changes as "Engineered scarcity, meet dumb money".

QQQ has 47% of Assets in Top 10 Holdings.
SPY has 37% of Assets in Top 10 Holdings.

ETF AUM
SPY $700B
QQQ $400B
TQQQ $27B
QQQE $1B

Strategy (MSTR), a leveraged bitcoin investment vehicle, is an example of different index methodologies. QQQ usually excludes financial companies, but included MSTR (calling it a technology stock). In contrast, the S&P 500 committee excluded MSTR from SPY.

Most of the Nasdaq 100 stocks are now in the S&P 500. There was a rapid increase between 1995 and 2010.
