It’s a bit disparaging to call them “know better” types. They’re professional members of the intelligence community. They do know an awful lot about international intelligence - AKA spying. And they know that to keep doing their job at the highest levels, they need to maintain high levels of secrecy. To keep people ALIVE and information flowing, they need secrecy.

It no secret that Trump and most of his cabinet can’t be trusted to maintain the necessary secrecy. So yes, professional members of the intelligence community don’t share all of their info with the White House. If they did, that info would leak out, their sources would dry up and many would be killed, and they wouldn’t have any info going forward.

So yeah, they withhold info from Trump so that they can continue to get intelligence in the future.
