The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

And that part of the ACA law is exactly what the WSJ editorial board was whining about AGAIN when they recently issued yet another screed blaming Dems for the increasing costs of medical insurance....

...because "anybody could have seen that" that law would cause what has happened...

" But government policies, especially ObamaCare, have driven the consolidation.

Start with the 2010 law’s medical-loss ratio, which requires insurers to spend at least 80% to 85% of premium dollars on medical care. This drove insurers to combine with providers, PBMs and pharmacies, and to steer revenue to these affiliates to dodge this de facto profit cap. Senate Democrats admit as much in a recent healthcare white paper.

Oh those poor abused insurers and hospital chains!
