I think this ignores the other, non economic, dividing lines. Repugnicans have long seized on fears and culture issues, and Trumpism is the ultimate example of demagogic use of those issues - trans athletes, lgbtq people, immigrants eating your cats, they’ll take away your guns, abortion, Fauci, etc. Those are the motivating themes, and no economic policies can overcome them when people believe they are stuck in an economic rut with no way out.
