The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Buc-ee's CEO says chain prefers states with 'conservative, business-friendly' leadership

"We have a lot of opportunities. We're growing. We're building in a lot of places, but when you find a conservative, business-friendly state with a phenomenal workforce, it makes a difference," Aplin said in a video shared by Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

"I'm starting to realize life's too short to try to build in places that people don't appreciate what you're bringing versus a place like this, where people do appreciate what you're building," he added.

"So that leadership, that concept, that idea of conservative, business-friendly, family-oriented concept works so much better if it trickles down from the very leadership," Aplin said. "From the very top at the governor's office, at the congressman, at the senator, at the mayor (and) the representatives."

So, he wants to build stores only where local authorities will pay him the most, and where it's easier to cheat customers and employees?

That's OK. The metro Detroit media seems to be entirely in the pay of Sheetz, breathlessly announcing every store planned or opened in the area, while running stock footage of what Sheetz offers, as "news".
