Uncertainty has blown up hedge funds' basis trades, seized up overnight repo markets, and will cause global investors to dump US treasuries because a US default is no longer unthinkable.
My addition: tariffs (which are bad enough for hyperinflation) or no tariffs, this has all the earmarks of a true financial crisis where big institutional traders lose faith in counterparties. Same as in the GFC of 2008-09.
Tariffs and a brewing financial crisis are in addition to other inflationary shocks, like deporting illegal workers causing a labor shortage in specific industries.
